iOS 18.3 Release Candidate now available to beta testers

The iOS 18.3 Release Candidate is now rolling out to developers and public beta testers. The update comes one week after Apple released the third beta, which included major changes to the Apple Intelligence notification summaries feature.

iOS 18.3 RC features the build number 22D60. The update is available to all developer beta testers and public beta testers.

iOS 18.3 was shaping up to be a relatively minor update compared to the monster iOS 18.1 and iOS 18.2 releases. Last week, however, Apple changed course and rolled out several significant changes to the Apple Intelligence notification summaries feature. The changes came after complaints from news outlets such as the BBC about misinformation being spread by inaccurate summaries.

To address those complaints, Apple made several changes with iOS 18.3 beta 3:

  • Apple Intelligence notification summaries have been temporarily disabled entirely for the News & Entertainment category of apps. They will return with a future software update.
  • You can now disable notification summaries for a specific app right on your iPhone’s Lock Screen.
  • Notification summaries now use italicized text to better distinguish them from regular notifications.
  • When you enable notification summaries, Apple clearly outlines that the feature is a beta and “may contain errors.”

iOS 18.3 will likely be released to the general public later this month. Whether Apple has any further changes planned for the update remains to be seen.
