Overcast, the hit podcast app developed by Marco Arment, has been updated today with a vastly improved Apple Watch app. This update follows Overcast’s major revamp last summer, which brought an all-new design in celebration of its tenth anniversary.
Overcast’s Apple Watch app has been completely rewritten from the ground up and should be “more responsive, efficient, and reliable.” In a post on Mastodon, Marco says the Apple Watch app “has the modern single-target infrastructure, rather than the legacy watchOS dual-extension combo.” All of this should lead to vastly improved performance and reliability.”
In addition to the new Apple Watch app, today’s Overcast update makes several notable tweaks and bug fixes, including improvements to CarPlay and the chapter interface.
Here are the full release notes for today’s update:
- Completely rewrote Apple Watch app to be MUCH more responsive, efficient, and reliable
- Disabled Lock Screen time-slider by default to reduce accidental seeking (previously in Nitpicky Details, now in regular Settings)
- Chapter rows in now-playing pane no longer activate while scrolling
- Fixed opening universal links to episodes
- Improved reliability of custom playlist ordering
- Improved CarPlay reliability
- Improved handling of certain audio conditions
- Improved launch time and other minor behaviors
- Opened a restaurant on Fire Island
